Carrier Oils..

Another type of oil for hair is called carrier oils. The oils are called carrier oils because they carry the essential oil onto the skin. Carrier oils are also known as base oil or vegetable oil they are usually derived from seeds or nuts. Carrier oils are best used as natural and unadulterated as possible. Cold pressing and maceration are the two main methods of producing carrier oils. Carrier oils are very important in hair care; they are great moisturizers, strengtheners and very nourishing for hair.

List of Carrier Oils and Their Benefits To Hair
Jojoba Oil – The debate is whether jojoba is the king of the carrier oils. Many scalp related problems are caused by a hardened build-up of sebum that clogs the hair follicles and may cause some types of scaling. If this hardened build-up is not removed, it can eventually obstruct the hair follicle’s ability to function properly, jojoba rapidly penetrates down to the scalp and hair shaft, and readily loosens and dissolves this hardened build-up. The scalp and hair follicles are left clean and free to continue their normal function. Jojoba is great for all hair types and has an ability to inhibit excess activity of the sebaceous glands making it the perfect choice for people with oily scalps that still need conditioning. Likewise it can be used for dry hair as it helps to moisturize your hair properly.
Olive Oil – Only olive oil that is labelled “extra virgin” guarantees that the oil has been cold pressed from freshly harvested olives and does not contain chemicals. Extra virgin olive oil that is green in color is of higher quality than golden-yellow oil. Olive oil helps in preventing as well as curing hair loss as  it prevents the production of the hormone DTH which causes the hair follicle shaft to decrease. Regular application of olive oil to hair prevents the production of DTH hormones on the scalp, thus getting rid of the problem of hair loss. For relaxed/permed hair ladies excessive chemical use can cause hair damage, olive oil contains antioxidants that promotes a healthy hair  and scalp. Olive oil strengthens and smooths hair cuticles.
Coconut Oil - Coconut oil consists of more than ninety percent of saturated fats Vitamin-E and Vitamin K and minerals such as Iron. Coconut oil is considered one of the best natural nutrition for hair and is in contention with olive and jojoba oils as the king of the carrier oils. It is an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged hair. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair and it softens the hair and conditions the scalp.
Castor Oil – is a vegetable oil obtained from the castor bean. Castor oil is a colorless to very pale yellow liquid with mild or no odor or taste. It is rich in ricinoleic acid and can be used to treat skin conditions such as fungal infections. It nourishes hair and prevents the scalp from drying by retaining moisture. Castor oil added to hair care products helps to seal moisture, softens, and visibly thickens hair. Castor oil can also be used by itself on the hair to seal in moisture.
Vitamin E Oil - Proper circulation leads to thriving hair follicles  which leads to hair growth. Vitamin E contains valuable antioxidants that help to keep the immune system up and improves circulation to all parts of the body, including the scalp. When added to homemade products, Vitamin E extends their shelf life. This oil  rejuvenates and offers protection for the scalp and skin.
Avocado Oil- is extracted from the king of the ‘hair’ fruits avocado. It is full of vitamins that your hair needs like vitamins A, E, D and potassium. If you want a super deep conditioner treatment without having to buy a commercial preparation, you can add avocado oil to the other carrier oils and you will definitely feel and see the difference.

Essential Oils for your hair... Treat yourself to something good

Essential Oils for hair can help your hair grow fast, reduce dandruff and hair loss, and minimize symptoms of alopecia areta.

Do you feel that great, healthy looking hair is for you?

Did you know that:

How our hair looks, feels, and grows can change based on:
  1.  What we put on it meaning synthetic shampoos, conditioners, gels, etc.
  2. What we eat and drink meaning what we put in our bodies comes out of through our hair as well
  3. What we do like swimming in a chlorinated pools, using hair dryers without a proper heat protectant, etc.
  4. The quality of our shower water: I suggest using a shower filter for best results to remove fluoride, chlorine, iron oxide in other words “rust”, reduce harmful VOCs (Volatile Organic Chemicals) and other contaminants.
  5. Genetics you know what our parents were passed down and what was passed down to us…
  6. How much sleep we get nightly
  7. Other health conditions such as thyroid, hormones, poor circulation, ect.

So my advice to you is, in addition to using the oils, review that list and determine if there is something else you need to do to support your hair. This may be as simple as drinking more water.
Also did you know that most shampoos, hair and skin care products on the market contain synthetic materials that create many of our hair, scalp and skin problems?
  • Propylene Glycol – inhibits skin cell growth; causes rashes, dry skin and skin irritation
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate or Laureth Sulfate – surfactant that corrodes hair follicles, impairs ability to grow hair and causes inflammation of skin
  • Oleyl Bentaine – causes dry hair, dandruff and dry scalp
  • Mineral Oil – petroleum products clogs pores
  • Parabens - can mimic the hormone estrogen, which is known to play a role in the development of breast cancers.
So check your labels.. You will be surprised!!

There are plenty of natural shampoos on the market.. Look around If you know of some let us know..

Foods and their benefits for hair

Eggs
Eggs serve as a wonderful base for many different kinds of natural skin care and beauty products. Eggs cleanse and strengthen at the same time. They can be used for facial scrubs, facial masks, hair masks and conditioners for the hair.

Egg whites contain an ingredient known as lysozymes. This important ingredient fights bacteria and is instrumental in cleaning the skin. If you whip up a facial mask that contains both egg whites and honey this will help to rid the skin of impurities and will draw out blackheads on the face. The mask will do even more than that however, as it will hydrate the skin and then smooth and firm it until it looks as good as new!

Another excellent aspect of eggs is that they contain an abundant supply of protein.

Apply egg whites as a base before you shampoo and/or condition your hair. This will not only strengthen the hair shaft but will provide more bounce and volume to your hair.

Honey
Honey is one of nature’s best overall ingredients as it is extremely versatile and can be used to improve the condition of the hair and the skin.

Honey is abundant in many valuable things that make it a worthwhile choice. These include water, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and carbohydrates. All of these items taken together can hydrate the hair and skin and make it healthier instantly.

Honey is sticky, as you very well know so the thought of applying it to your skin or hair may not seem very appealing but once you get the hang of using it you will be so glad that you did! You are probably better off buying a squeeze bottle of honey for the purposes of using it as a beauty product. Rest assured that honey rinses off the skin and out of the hair with ease.

Honey works well when used as a facemask as it purifies the skin. It is also excellent for dry skin because it is a natural emollient as it helps to keep moisture in the skin where you want it. Nature’s antibacterial agent is potassium and honey is abundant in this mineral. Honey kills bacteria in the skin and it gets rid of impurities that are hiding in the pores.

Honey can benefit your hair tremendously as well. It helps to bring life back into hair that is damaged, dull looking or has been colored or over processed.

Apply honey to your hair, starting at the roots. Do not touch your hair right away but allow the honey to work its way into the hair shaft. Leave the honey on for approximately 20 minutes and then rinse it off before you shampoo.

Avocado
Avocados are rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin K, fiber, folate, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, copper and potassium and have been used in treating a ton of skin ailments.  They are known to have a anti-fungal, anti-bacterial flesh that has been used for centuries.  Avocados contain oleic acid, a monounsaturated fat that may help to lower cholesterol.  They may also regulate blood pressure due their concentration of Potassium.  They can also guard against stroke, heart disease, and high blood pressure.

Using an avocado in a homemade hair conditioner mask you can offer these valuable nutrients for your hair, supporting healthy growth, shine and a soft texture. When ripe, the flesh becomes an easy to use ingredient in homemade hair condition recipes.

Agave Nectar
Agave nectar is composed of several large carbohydrate molecules called polysaccharides: saponin, inulin, and fructosan. These polymers are made up of building blocks of different types of sugar molecules. Fructose is the primary component, with glucose being a smaller fraction of the material. Polysaccharides have many hydroxyl groups and for this reason are very hydrophilic. They will behave as humectants and draw water either to the hair or out of the hair, depending upon the environment.

Mayo
Mayonnaise is a white to beige-colored, semi-solid combination of vegetable oil, egg yolk and vinegar or lemon juice. It is often seasoned with salt, sugar and other spices like paprika. Mayonnaise is acidic (pH 3.8 to 4.1) because of the highly acidic vinegar and lemon juice it contains. Hair is also naturally acidic and responds well to products that help it maintain its natural acid mantle. Mayonnaise contains lots of strengthening and conditioning ingredients. The egg content of mayo allows it to be a source of B vitamins, milk protein, amino acids and other proteins. Proteins help repair, reinforce and rebuild damage to the outer hair cuticle.

Yogurt
Yogurt is a dairy product that is obtained by fermenting milk. This fermentation uses bacteria to transform milk, which is a liquid into yogurt, which is semi-solid in nature. Yogurt is a proven treasure-trove of enriching elements like zinc, calcium, lactic acid, Vitamins B1, B2, B-6 and B-12, protein, and yeast. It holds rich deposits of friendly bacteria that boost overall health as well as that of the hair and skin.

Yogurt is also beneficial in hair care. It can be the base of your conditioner, and is also a gentle cleanser. Yogurt promotes hair growth, and makes it easy to comb hair and get rid of knots. To garner the benefits of yogurt, put about half a cup of whole yogurt in a blender and work it into a smooth paste. Coat your hair with it, wrap your hair in a towel, and then wash your hair thoroughly after about 15 minutes.

You can even prevent frizzy hair with the help of yogurt. Take four tablespoons of plain yogurt and one egg, and mix them well in a bowl. Massage this mixture well into your hair, leave it for ten minutes, and then rinse it off. This conditioner can soften dull hair and add life to it.

Coconut Milk
Coconut milk contains proteins, which strengthen hair and can help to minimize breakage. It also has properties, which protect hair and scalp from UV rays.

Using coconut milk for improving hair growth is another simple home remedy for hair loss that some claim to offer results. Apply all over your scalp with fingers and give your scalp a deep massage so that the coconut milk reaches the roots of your hair. It serves to nourish the hair and promote the growth of new hair. In addition, it keeps the existing hair in a healthy condition.

Bananas
There are a number of benefits of bananas. The benefits are not just limited to health but also extend up to beauty treatments as well. It is an effective beauty treatment as well for hair. Banana is rich in potassium, natural oils, carbohydrates and vitamins that helps in softening the hair and protects the hair's natural elasticity preventing split ends and breakage. Bananas when used for hair has a number of benefits such as it creates manageability, shine, growth and controls dandruff. These are simply the best for hair and the scalp. Bananas enhance the strength, endurance and shine of the hair and can be referred to as the banana food.
